Ellen Kowitt (pronounced KO-witt like KO-dak) is the founder and principal genealogist at Sole Searching Genealogy & Historical Research. With a focus on American records and Jewish ancestry, she is a regular speaker at national conferences and has contributed articles to Family Tree Magazine and Avotaynu: The International Journal on Jewish Genealogy.
Ellen holds a B.A. from Alfred University and has a 25-year background in marketing management and communications prior to her full-time research career. She has completed ProGen and various genealogical institutes, and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. Ellen has held numerous leadership roles within the genealogy community and is currently the Director of the JewishGen USA Research Division and the DAR National Vice Chair of Jewish Specialty Research. A New York native, Ellen now lives in Colorado with her family.
